Nigerian Meteorological Agency forecasts a three-day spell of dusty conditions and sunny weather starting Monday

Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, forecasts a blend of dust haze and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday, as stated in its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja.

A moderate dust haze is anticipated to affect parts of Kebbi and Kano States in the northern region on Monday, resulting in horizontal visibility of two to five kilometres.

Other northern states are expected to experience predominantly sunny and hazy skies during this period, according to NiMet's predictions.

For the central region, moderate dust haze is forecast to impact parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, while the remaining states will remain sunny and hazy throughout the period.

In the southern region, sunny skies with occasional cloud patches are predicted, accompanied by afternoon and evening thunderstorms and light rains in Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Tuesday, a slight dust haze is expected to influence parts of Kano and Kebbi States, with other northern states continuing under sunny and hazy conditions.

The central region is anticipated to experience sunny and hazy conditions on Tuesday, with isolated thundery activity in parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening.

Southern states will see sunny skies with cloud patches on Tuesday, along with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Wednesday, both northern and central regions are expected to remain sunny and hazy, according to NiMet's forecast.

Southern areas will experience sunny skies with occasional cloud patches on Wednesday, with prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rains across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

NiMet cautions that suspended dust particles in the air pose a risk, advising the public, especially those with asthma or respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.

The agency also advises drivers to exercise caution during rainfall and recommends that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning purposes.
