Nigerian Air Force takes control of Abia state facility for training purposes, amidst Governor Otti's decision to maintain current office location.

Nigerian Air Force has secured 200 hectares of land in Abia State for a training base, as revealed by Governor Alex Otti during a media briefing in Umuahia, with the facility set to be situated near the proposed Abia airport site.

A temporary site has already been prepared in Umuahia, paving the way for operations to commence as early as next month, according to Otti, who approved the Air Force's request for land following an inspection of the airport project.

Otti expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the airport runway, noting that the state government is overseeing the construction of the runway, while the Federal Government is responsible for delivering the main airport infrastructure.

The governor ruled out any plans to relocate the Government House from its current location, stating that discussions are underway with investors to convert the new Government House at Ogurube Layout into a five-star hotel, a project initially built by his predecessor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Otti emphasized that the current Government House is ideally situated and will not be moved, with renovation works underway to upgrade the old building to befitting standards, as he affirmed that "The Government House is more ideal where it is, it is not moving".

His administration is currently overseeing over 30 ongoing projects across the state, with Otti reaffirming his commitment to sustained infrastructural development, highlighting the completion of the remaining stretch of the 67.44km Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Abriba–Ohafia road as a key achievement.

Otti described the Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Abriba–Ohafia road as a key arterial route in Abia, and addressed misinformation by opposition parties, clarifying that the state does not receive federal reimbursement for reconstructing federal roads.

He emphasized that such interventions are driven by the need to improve road conditions for residents, stating that "The only way a state can recoup investment on federal roads is through tolling, but we are not considering that, there is no reimbursement at all".

Regarding housing, Otti stated that the government has no immediate plan to regulate rising rents, attributing the surge to increased demand, and expressed optimism that prices will stabilize as more investors enter the sector.

Otti also ruled out electricity subsidies, arguing that reliable power supply is more beneficial than subsidized inefficiency, stating that "It is cheaper to pay for 24-hour electricity than to pay for darkness".

The governor announced plans to expand digital connectivity across the state, with a target to achieve statewide 3G network coverage by the end of 2026, aiming to enhance internet access for residents.
