Nigerian Air Force Chief Receives Prestigious Recognition in the United States, Named to Global Honors List for 2026

The Department of the Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, United States, has bestowed a prestigious honour upon Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Chief of Air Staff, by inducting him into the International Honor Roll Class of 2026, an exclusive recognition reserved for distinguished global air power leaders.

This esteemed recognition was formally conferred on April 10, 2026, as announced by the Nigerian Air Force, and Air Marshal Aneke was joined by other senior air force leaders from around the world in receiving this honour.

A statement released by the Nigerian Air Force disclosed that Air Marshal Aneke, who attended the Air War College at Air University in 2016 as a member of Seminar 7, was formally inducted on 10 April 2026 alongside 15 other Air Chiefs and 2 Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force equivalents from across the globe.

The Nigerian Air Force explained that the ceremony was specifically organised to pay tribute to senior officers who had graduated from the Air War College and subsequently risen to become service chiefs in their respective countries.

The ceremony was designed to acknowledge senior Air Force officers who, after attending the Air War College, have ascended to the highest echelons of their professional careers as Air Chiefs and CMSAF equivalents in their countries.

As part of the programme, participants, including Air Marshal Aneke, were hosted at the Governor’s Mansion in Alabama and embarked on visits to key institutions connected to US military education and heritage.

The participants were warmly received by Governor Kay Ivey at the Governor’s Mansion before proceeding on a series of heritage and institutional visits to notable sites, including the Alabama Supreme Court in Montgomery, the Air University Library, the Enlisted Heritage Museum, Maxwell Club, the Air War College, as well as the SNCO Academy at Gunter Annex.

The engagements and visits undertaken during the programme underscored the significance of military education, leadership, and international ties among global air force leaders, according to the Air Force.
