Nigeria Sees 88% Surge in Foreign Investment, Reaching $23.2 Billion in 2025

Capital importation into the country saw a significant year-on-year increase of 88.5 percent, reaching $23.21 billion in 2025, up from $12.31 billion in 2024, according to an analysis by Elizabeth Adegbesan.
nThe first quarter of 2025, or Q1'25, witnessed capital importation of $5.64 billion, as revealed by the National Bureau of Statistics' Capital Importation Report for 2025.
nIn the subsequent quarter, Q2'25, capital importation declined by 9.2 percent to $5.12 billion, but then rebounded in Q3'25 with a 17.4 percent increase to $6.01 billion.
nThe upward trend persisted in Q4'25, with capital importation rising by 7.15 percent to $6.44 billion, as stated in the NBS' latest report.
nAccording to the NBS, Q4'25 saw total capital importation of $6.44 billion, surpassing the $5.09 billion recorded in Q4'24 by 26.61 percent on a year-on-year basis, and exceeding the preceding quarter's $6.015 billion by 7.15 percent.
nPortfolio Investment emerged as the dominant component, accounting for 85.14 percent of total capital importation with $5.49 billion, followed by Other Investment with $599.65 million, or 9.31 percent, and Foreign Direct Investment with $357.80 million, or 5.55 percent.
nIn terms of sectoral distribution, the Banking sector attracted the largest inflow of $3.85 billion, representing 59.75 percent of total capital imported in Q4'25, while the Financing sector received $1.94 million, or 30.15 percent, and the Production/Manufacturing sector garnered $308.93 million, or 4.79 percent.
nThe United Kingdom was the primary source of capital importation during the reference period, contributing $3.73 billion, or 57.94 percent of the total, followed by the United States with $837.91 million, or 13 percent, and the Republic of South Africa with $516.96 million, or 8.02 percent.
