Nigeria Reaches Out to British Businesses, Shows It's Open for Investment at Recent Trade Delegation

Nigeria is ramping up efforts to secure foreign investment, leveraging the UK–Nigeria Trade and Investment Mission in Abuja to showcase its reform-driven economy as an attractive destination for investors.

The two-day event convened public and private sector stakeholders to translate bilateral talks into tangible, bankable agreements that can boost investment inflows and strengthen economic bonds between the two nations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) revealed that it co-hosted the mission with DMA Invest and the UK Department of Trade, with participation from the British High Commission and key industry players.

Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary and CEO of NIPC, emphasized that the mission's objective was to convert discussions into concrete projects and partnerships, stating, “This Mission is not just about conversations—it is about conversion.

Rimi underscored the mission's goal of ensuring that strategic engagements yield real projects and partnerships that drive meaningful economic impact in Nigeria, adding that the event sent a clear message to potential investors that Nigeria is open for business and ready to compete.

According to Rimi, the mission's engagements, including ministerial roundtables and sector-specific sessions, successfully identified bankable investment opportunities across key sectors, moving beyond mere dialogue.

The NIPC also noted a surge in investor confidence, citing feedback from DMA Invest, which described the Commission as “the best it has ever been,” reflecting the positive impact of ongoing institutional reforms and a stronger focus on investor needs.
