The Nigeria Labour Congress, led by its President Joe Ajaero, has sounded the alarm on the country's deteriorating security situation, cautioning that Nigeria is on a perilous downward spiral as Muslims observe the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

In a message commemorating the Sallah festivities, the NLC implored the nation's political leaders to place a high premium on peace and security, emphasizing that human life should never be sacrificed for personal ambition or interests.

The labour body cited the recent bombings in Maiduguri, along with other disturbing incidents, as stark evidence of a nation rapidly sliding into chaos.

As the Muslim community and Nigerian citizens mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the NLC extended warm greetings, acknowledging the hardships endured by many due to the pervasive insecurity.

The NLC stressed that leadership is rendered meaningless without a secure and thriving population, and therefore demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing bloodshed.

Politicians were urged to reflect on their duties and responsibilities, with the NLC emphasizing that a peaceful nation is the greatest gift that can be bestowed upon its citizens, as "you cannot govern ghosts."

The labour body also made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to unite and work together, rejecting the destructive influence of violent politics in favour of a path that prioritizes development and stability.
