Nigeria commences repatriation of citizens opting to leave Iran through Armenian border crossing

The Federal Government has initiated the evacuation of Nigerians in Iran who are willing to leave, with a focus on ensuring their safe transit into Armenia amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, confirmed the evacuation operation on her X handle on Tuesday, stating that it involves the coordination of Nigerian Embassy officials in Tehran.

According to Dabiri-Erewa, embassy officials are working to facilitate the movement of citizens who wish to depart Iran, guaranteeing their secure passage into Armenia.

Dabiri-Erewa noted that the evacuation process involves the safe escort of willing Nigerians across the Armenia border, with officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran overseeing the operation.

She emphasized that, as of now, no Nigerian in Iran has been directly impacted by the rising tensions, and embassy staff are stationed at the border to provide assistance to evacuees.
