NGX All-Share Index Surpasses Milestone 200,000 Threshold Amid Ongoing Equity Market Uptrend

Nigeria's stock market achieved a significant milestone on Monday, as the Nigerian Exchange Limited's All-Share Index surpassed the 200,000-points threshold, driven by robust investor demand and widespread gains across major sectors.
nThe benchmark Index experienced a 1.55% increase, closing at 201,474.89 points, marking a notable rise from the previous trading session's 198,407.30 points.
nThis development resulted in a Month-to-Date return of 4.48% for the All-Share Index, while the Year-to-Date return stood at 29.47%, indicative of strong market momentum.
nMarket capitalisation expanded to N129.33 trillion, representing a increase from the previous N127.36 trillion, with large-cap stocks leading the gains across the market.
nTrading activity remained vigorous, with a total of 72,700 deals executed, and investors exchanging 948.1 million shares valued at N49.15 billion.
nFinancial services stocks dominated transactions by volume, reflecting heightened investor interest in the sector, with BUA Cement Plc, Premier Paints Plc, John Holt Plc, Guinea Insurance Plc, and FTN Cocoa Processors Plc emerging as top gainers for the session.
nConversely, decliners included VFD Group Plc, Royal Exchange Plc, Omatek Ventures Plc, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, and Regency Alliance Insurance Plc.
nTemi Popoola, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Group, viewed the milestone as a sign of growing confidence in Nigeria's capital market, citing ongoing reforms that are strengthening domestic capital formation and eliciting a positive market response.
nPopoola further noted that increased participation by local investors, improving corporate fundamentals, and continued market modernisation are reinforcing the role of the capital market as a catalyst for long-term wealth creation and sustainable economic growth.
nJude Chiemeka, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, attributed the milestone to sustained demand and active participation across the market, stating that crossing the 200,000-point mark reflects strong investor engagement and consistent demand across key sectors.
nChiemeka added that Nigerian Exchange Limited remains focused on deepening market liquidity, enhancing trading infrastructure, and ensuring efficient price discovery to support a resilient and transparent marketplace.
