Nenadi Usman asserts Labour Party is solid and cohesive

The Labour Party's National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman, has reaffirmed the party's unity and strength amidst ongoing leadership disputes and controversies surrounding the sale of nomination forms, as she spoke with journalists after the screening of aspirants in Abuja on Wednesday.

Usman described the screening process as a resounding success, citing the large number of aspirants seeking to contest elections on the party's platform, and expressed her happiness with the exercise, which began the previous day.

When asked about the party's strength, Usman stated that she does not believe the party is weak, given the significant number of people interested in using the party as a platform to contest elections.

Regarding reports of former National Chairman Julius Abure allegedly distributing free nomination forms, Usman dismissed the move as illegal, noting that the party leadership was surprised by the move, especially after the Supreme Court ruling that Abure's tenure had expired.

Usman revealed that the names currently on the INEC website are those elected at the convention in Umuahia, and stated that the party has reported the matter to the IGP and the DG of the DSS, with INEC also being informed.

The Labour Party chairman expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would maintain its earlier position on the party's leadership dispute, stating that the court cannot reverse itself on the issue of tenure.

Usman warned party supporters and aspirants to be cautious of fake nomination forms being circulated by unauthorised persons, citing an example of a person who showed her a form that was not issued by the party.

On the topic of party primaries, Usman said that Nigerians will ultimately decide who governs them through their votes, and expressed her trust in the democratic process, stating that power belongs to God and Nigerians will choose their leaders.

The Labour Party chairman revealed that three aspirants have already purchased nomination forms for the party's presidential ticket, and stated that the party has decided that its next flag bearer should come from the South.

Usman assured Nigerians that the party's primaries will be free and fair, and expressed hope for a consensus, but noted that whoever emerges will go through a thorough screening process.

Sen. Enyinaya Abaribe, who led a delegation of aspirants from Abia State, expressed trust in the judgment of the screening committee and confidence in the party's chances, stating that Abia State is for the Labour Party and the party will win all elections.

Aspirant and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Poverty Alleviation, Alex Ikwechegh, expressed confidence in his candidacy, citing his performance and the growing popularity of the party in Abia State, and noted that no one has procured a form to run against him in Aba South Federal Constituency.
