Ndume condemns fresh Boko Haram raids on pair of Borno villages

Saturday's invasion of Ashigashiya village in Gwoza local government area and Kopul village of Askira-Uba local government area by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists has sparked concern from Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South.

The attacks resulted in the killing of a disabled household member in Ashigashiya, who perished in a fire allegedly set by the terrorists at his house, while many residential houses were also set ablaze, with foodstuffs and livestock being looted.

In Kopul village, although no casualties were recorded, numerous houses and shops were destroyed, leading to the displacement of many people who fled into the bush for safety.

Senator Ndume, in a Sunday interview in Maiduguri, offered condolences to the victims of the attacks and reiterated his calls for the Federal government to provide the military, police, and other security agencies with sophisticated weapons to combat Boko Haram.

According to Ndume, Nigeria's Armed Forces are doing their best to fight Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are hindered by a lack of adequate weapons, emphasizing the need for the federal government to Train, Equip, Arm, and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.

Ndume stressed that the military and other security agencies require access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets, and drones to effectively end Boko Haram's atrocities.

The Senator commended the Nigerian Military, other security agencies, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and Vigilantes for their unwavering sacrifices and commitment to the fight against terrorism.

Ndume also praised the swift response of the Cameroonian Forces in repelling the Ashigashiya attack, which potentially prevented a more devastating outcome.
