Ndume and Zannah pay hospital visit to casualties of Maiduguri bombing at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital

Saturday's aftermath saw Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, and Rt. Hon. Usman Zannah, representing Kaga, Magumeri, and Gubio Federal Constituency, pay a visit to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and other healthcare facilities to show support for victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri.

Last Monday, a devastating series of events unfolded as triple suicide bombers targeted the Post Office, Monday Market general area, and the main UMTH gate, resulting in the loss of 23 lives and injuring over 100 others in the metropolis.

Spearheading the visit was Senator Ndume, who had been in Saudi Arabia performing the 2026 Lesser Hajj, and upon his return to Maiduguri, proceeded directly to UMTH to offer solace to the victims and their families, describing the moment as a “deeply painful” one for the state.

During his time at the Trauma Centre, Senator Ndume visited multiple wards, engaging with patients and offering words of comfort, while also urging them to remain steadfast and resilient in the face of adversity.

He extended condolences to the bereaved families and provided financial support to help alleviate medical and related expenses, demonstrating his commitment to supporting those affected by the tragedy.

Rt. Hon. Usman Zannah, Chairman of the House Committee on North East Development Commission, expressed his shock and dismay over the incidents, praying for the eternal rest of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Zannah commended the show of support by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima during his visit to UMTH to sympathise with the victims.

He also praised the efforts of the Borno State Government, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, as well as the management and staff of UMTH, the State Specialist Hospital, and Umaru Shehu UltraModern Hospital, for their tireless work in treating the victims.

Zannah acknowledged the vital contributions of rescue teams, including the military, police, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, in safeguarding lives during and after the blasts, highlighting their crucial role in responding to the crisis.

Furthermore, Zannah advised citizens to exercise caution by avoiding crowded areas and reporting any suspicious activities to security agencies, particularly during the Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, to ensure their safety and security.
