NDC vows to hold transparent elections, rules out forced candidate selection

ABUJA — The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has assured party members that the party will uphold internal democracy and will not impose candidates on any of its members.

Dickson gave the assurance on Monday night in Abuja during a meeting with leaders of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, amid concerns raised by foundation members of the party in Kano State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the meeting was a closed-door engagement aimed at addressing disagreements between the Kwankwasiyya Movement and legacy officials of the party in Kano State.

The statement noted that the national leadership of the Kwankwasiyya Movement met with Dickson and other NDC leaders to resolve outstanding issues and strengthen unity within the party.

It read in part: “The close-door meeting was aimed at resolving the issues between the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the legacy officials of NDC in Kano State.

“Senator Dickson and the NDC leadership are mediating in the process in order to enhance inclusion and participation by every party member. The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy.

“The meeting which lasted several hours was productive.

“The NDC has not released any official results of its primary elections in any state. Hence, the public and party members are urged to disregard any such list in circulation.”

The party said the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to ensure inclusivity and prevent internal crisis ahead of future elections.
