Nasarawa State Governorship: Haruna Refuses to Concede to Wadada

Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna, a former executive vice chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, has declared his intention to contest the All Progressives Congress primaries in Nasarawa State, despite Governor Abdullahi Sule's endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.

Haruna's decision was made known at a consultative meeting in Keffi, where he met with stakeholders and support groups from the three senatorial zones to seek their direction on whether to proceed with his ambition or step down.

During the meeting, Haruna stated that his decision would be guided by the outcome of the consultation, and if the stakeholders resolved that he should withdraw from the race, he would accept the verdict.

The party leaders, after deliberations across the zones, ultimately resolved that Haruna should remain in the race and test his popularity at the party's primaries.

Haruna's approach was informed by the need to carry along those who had supported his political structure over time, and he noted that the aspirants had agreed to consult their supporters and stakeholders before making a decision.

After the stakeholders' verdict, Haruna accepted to contest the primaries, announcing that his campaign rally would be held on Wednesday.

Defending his right to contest, Haruna cited his role in the formation and growth of the ruling party, including providing financial support to the Congress for Progressive Change and the establishment of party offices across local government areas.

Haruna noted that he had been involved with the APC from its national level and that his initiative had contributed to the party's success, stating that even if he is not the governor, he should celebrate the party's success.

Stakeholders from the three senatorial zones endorsed Haruna's participation in the primaries, citing his capacity and experience in previous public and private sector roles.

Barrister Ibrahim Adega from the Southern zone stated that the position was unanimous across the three senatorial districts, emphasizing that the absence of consensus necessitates a contest.

Former APC chairman in Keffi Local Government, Mohammad Bello, highlighted Haruna's grassroots appeal and impact, which distinguish him among aspirants.

Rev. Dr. Pastor Benjamin Baka from Nasarawa West described Haruna as a leading aspirant, pointing to his record before entering politics.
