Nasarawa sacks six commissioners in cabinet reshuffle

The Nasarawa State Government has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle involving six commissioners as part of efforts to reposition the administration for the successful completion of its remaining mandates.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting.

Magaji said the adjustment was aimed at strengthening the government’s structure, introducing fresh energy and accommodating other interests as the administration approaches the final months of its tenure.

The affected ministries include Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Other Sundry Matters.

He, however, stressed that the decision was not a reflection of poor performance by the affected commissioners, noting that the council appreciated their contributions and commitment while serving in their respective offices.

“The affected commissioners have been appreciated for their efficiency and hard work while in office. The adjustment is not a reflection of underperformance but a deliberate move to strengthen governance structures and bring in fresh energy,” he said.

The SSG added that the affected commissioners would be considered for other assignments in due course, while the names of their replacements would be announced through the appropriate channels.

Speaking on issues discussed at the council meeting, Magaji said members reviewed ways of improving the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR), particularly by leveraging the economic opportunities presented by lithium processing companies operating in Nasarawa.

He recalled that the state recently attracted national attention following the commissioning of one of the country’s largest lithium processing companies by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, discussions on maximising the benefits of the emerging lithium industry were ongoing, adding that details of the council’s decisions would be made public at the appropriate time.
