Nasarawa: Authorities Recover Stolen Newborn, Apprehend Alleged Kidnapper

A remarkable rescue operation was conducted by the Nasarawa State Police command, resulting in the successful recovery of a three-day-old baby who had been abducted, and the arrest of two suspects in connection with the crime, as disclosed by the command.

The incident began when 19-year-old Aisha Bada, a resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, reported to the police that her newborn baby boy had been taken by unknown individuals, as stated in a press statement signed by Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, the command's Public Relations Officer.

The report was made on March 29, 2026, at approximately 5:45 am in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, with Aisha Bada explaining that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had been away in Lagos for business for about five months prior to the incident.

According to Aisha Bada, on March 28, 2026, at around 11:50 am, two unidentified men broke into her uncompleted building at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, where she was asleep with her three-day-old baby, threatened her with violence, and abducted the baby.

Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed detectives from Mararaba 'A' Division to visit the scene and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

On April 3, 2026, at approximately 4:00 am, police operatives arrested two suspects, Furera Abdulrahman, 35, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, based on credible intelligence.

The abducted baby boy was found in the possession of the suspects, who confessed to the crime during interrogation and implicated an accomplice currently at large, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where a medical doctor examined him, certified him to be in good health, and subsequently discharged him, after which he was reunited with his parents.

The case is currently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further discreet investigation upon completion of preliminary enquiries, as confirmed by the statement.
