Nasarawa Assembly Speaker and Two Incumbent House of Representatives Members Fail to Secure APC Tickets

Edwin Philip reported that Dr. Danladi Jatau, Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, and Ali Abdul-Mumin Muhammad, were defeated in the All Progressive Congress primaries held on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The results were announced by Hon. Musa Shuaibu Guri, Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, on Sunday night, who attributed the delay in starting the election to difficult terrain and security challenges in some areas.

The election delay was caused by the challenging terrain of some localities and security concerns in other communities, according to Hon. Musa Shuaibu Guri, who stated that the committee could not risk its staff by starting the election at night in certain areas.

In the Kokona / Keffi/ Karu Federal constituency, Daniel Oga Ogazi defeated Nasarawa State House of Assembly speaker, Danladi Jatau, with 13,083 votes to Jatau's 5,873 votes.

Other candidates in the Kokona / Keffi/ Karu Federal constituency, including Mohamed Dikko, Mohammed Nurai Adamu, Joseph Kaura, and Mahra Musa, secured 316, 769, 1,429, and 1,384 votes, respectively.

Tony Bala Shammah won the Wamba/Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency with 38,333 votes, defeating incumbent member Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, who secured 4,061 votes.

In the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Mohammed Al-Bashir Yerima defeated two-term House of Representatives member, Hon. Ari Mohamed Abdul-Mumin Muhammad, with 31,796 votes to Muhammad's 9,039 votes.

Muhamed Ahmed Al-Makura, nephew of former Governor Tanko Al-Makura, was returned elected with 45,000 votes in the Lafia/Obi Federal constituency, following the withdrawal of fellow aspirant, Isaac Ali Kigbu, from the race.

As of press time, the results of the Awe/Doma/ Keana constituency were not available, as the primary election did not take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
