Naira versus US Dollar exchange value for Saturday, May 22, 2026

The Nigerian Naira continued to exhibit stability against the United States Dollar on Friday, May 22, 2026, with its value holding firm in both the official and parallel market segments.
nThis steady performance was evident in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, where the Naira opened at 1,370.05 per US Dollar, closely mirroring the previous session's closing trends, which hovered around the 1,371 to 1,373 range.
nLiquidity in the official window remained robust, underpinned by steady interbank activity and the Central Bank of Nigeria's targeted interventions, which effectively managed transaction matching and mitigated morning volatility.
nIn the parallel market, the local currency also showed stability, with Bureau De Change operators in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Kano quoting rates of around 1,370 Naira for buying and 1,372 Naira for selling per US Dollar.
nThis convergence between the parallel market and the official NFEM spot price marks a significant reduction in the speculative premium that historically existed between the two market segments, with rates now tightly aligned at around 1,370 Naira per US Dollar.
nAccording to financial analysts, the current equilibrium stems from a balanced mix of moderated retail demand and aggressive monetary policy frameworks, including a Monetary Policy Rate of 26.5 percent.
nThe tight control over liquidity, anchored by the high Monetary Policy Rate, has kept speculative attacks at bay, preserving a predictable environment for businesses and investors, and supporting the Naira's stability against the US Dollar.
