Morocco Awaits Showdown with Victor of Nigeria-Cameroon Matchup at WAFCON 2026

Morocco's path to the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been set, with a potential matchup against either Nigeria or Cameroon awaiting them after their 2-1 win over South Africa on Saturday night.
nThe Atlas Lionesses sealed their spot in the last four by edging out the reigning African champions, South Africa, in a tightly contested quarter-final match.
nSakina Ouzraoui scored the opening goal for the hosts, while Hanan Ait El Haj increased Morocco's lead with a penalty kick.
nSouth Africa, nicknamed Banyana Banyana, managed to pull one goal back through Thembi Kgatlana in the 67th minute, but Morocco's defense held strong to secure their semi-final berth.
nThe outcome of the quarter-final match between Nigeria and Cameroon on Sunday will determine Morocco's next opponent in the competition.
nA possible encounter with Nigeria would reignite the rivalry between the two teams, who previously met in the 2024 WAFCON final, which Nigeria won to claim their 10th continental title.
nMorocco is now focused on making the most of their home advantage as they strive to capture their first WAFCON title.
nBy reaching the semi-finals, Morocco has also guaranteed their qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, a spot that will be awarded to all four WAFCON semi-finalists.
