Misconduct will not be accepted during my tenure, vows Commissioner Okpoziakpo

Newly appointed Commissioner of Police Eloho Okpoziakpo has urged officers and men of the Police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos to recommit to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, diligence, and adherence to the law, emphasizing that indiscipline will no longer be tolerated under his leadership.

Okpoziakpo issued this directive during his inaugural briefing at the unit's headquarters in Milverton, Ikoyi, which marked the beginning of his tenure as the 34th Commissioner of Police of the PSFU.

In accordance with the directives of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, Okpoziakpo warned that any instances of indiscipline or unprofessional conduct by unit operatives would be met with swift and decisive action.

Okpoziakpo stressed that discipline is the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force, and he will not tolerate any form of indiscipline among officers under his command, instead emphasizing the importance of professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the law.

He encouraged all officers to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect, highlighting the need for professionalism in the discharge of their duties and noting that respect is reciprocal.

Okpoziakpo also called upon the public to engage with the police and other security agencies in a civil and respectful manner, urging them to view the police as partners in maintaining law and order.

He warned that any officer found wanting in their duties would face decisive disciplinary action, emphasizing that accountability and transparency will be the core principles of his administration.

The Commissioner of Police outlined the unit's mandate, which includes protecting citizens, safeguarding economic activities, and ensuring that perpetrators of financial crimes are brought to justice without fear or favor.

Okpoziakpo expressed his gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for the trust placed in him and noted that the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force are already yielding positive results.

He pledged to align the PSFU with the reform agenda by building a unit that is responsive, accountable, and respected for its professionalism in handling complex financial and related crimes.
