Minister of Defence vows to secure release of abducted individuals

Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, provided reassurance on Saturday that the nation's security agencies are diligently working towards securing the release of kidnapped individuals in Southern Kaduna and other parts of the country.

He offered these words of assurance while attending the 2026 Southern Kaduna Festival in Kafanchan, where he was presented with the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander Award.

The minister emphasized that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, along with other security agencies, remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens, ensuring their safety across the nation.

Gen. Musa acknowledged that many Nigerians are still being held captive, and he sent a message of hope to them, stating that the government is working tirelessly to secure their freedom, and that they are not forgotten.

He emphasized that cooperation among citizens, communities, and security agencies is crucial in tackling the nation's insecurity challenges, and that unity and collective action are essential in overcoming these challenges.

According to Gen. Musa, the power of unity and collective action can help the nation overcome even the most daunting security challenges, and he expressed confidence that with God on their side, no evil can prevail.

The minister highlighted the importance of security as a foundation for economic growth, investment, education, healthcare, and national development, assuring Nigerians that the military and other security agencies are focused on defending the nation's territorial integrity.

Gen. Musa acknowledged the persistence of security challenges in some areas but noted that sustained efforts are being made to restore peace and stability, and that significant efforts are being made to address security threats across the country.

He reiterated the government's determination to ensure that Nigerians can live, work, and prosper in safety and dignity, and urged communities to embrace peace, dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.

The minister also called on young people to focus on education, skills acquisition, and productive ventures, while avoiding violence, criminality, extremism, and substance abuse, and emphasized the need for governments, traditional institutions, and private organisations to create opportunities for youths to reach their full potential.

Gen. Musa commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, women groups, youth organisations, and community leaders for their contributions to peacebuilding and social cohesion, and described the Southern Kaduna Festival as an important platform for cultural preservation and social integration.

Rear Adm. Fergus Bobai, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the festival, noted that the event has continued to promote unity and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Southern Kaduna, demonstrating what can be achieved when communities come together despite challenges.

Bobai expressed optimism that the festival would continue to grow in impact and relevance in the years ahead, serving as a testament to the power of unity and collective action in achieving common goals.
