Military forces disrupt terrorist supply chains, eliminate bomb menace, apprehend suspects in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded fresh operational successes against terrorists in separate operations across Zamfara State.

The operations were conducted on August 7, 2026, according to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.

Danja said the operations disrupted terrorist movements, intercepted an alleged logistics supplier, recovered military-related items and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along a major road.

He said troops of Sector 2, working with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.

According to him, the team located and cleared the device, scanned the road and declared it safe before reopening it to motorists.

Danja said that on their return from the operation, the troops encountered suspected terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.

He said the troops engaged the group, forcing the suspects to withdraw into the bush.

A subsequent search of the area, he added, led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items.

In Shinkafi Local Government Area, Danja said troops of Sector 2, working with the Mobile Police Squadron, acted on intelligence concerning suspected terrorist activity around Kwanar Jolof.

He said the troops engaged the suspected terrorists, who withdrew from the area.

A follow-up search, according to him, led to the recovery of a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest and a jungle hat, among other items.

Danja further said troops on patrol near Maradun intercepted a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier identified as 35-year-old Lawali Dan Alo.

He said a search of the suspect’s bag, which he reportedly claimed contained food items, led to the recovery of N5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.

“Preliminary interrogation showed the suspect was allegedly delivering the funds on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual, Kasimu Garba, who was arrested at his residence. Both suspects are in custody for further investigation,” he said.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for what it described as their vigilance, courage and prompt response during the operations.

It said aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted actions against terrorist networks would continue across the North-West region.

The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
