Militants from Boko Haram Kill Newborn Infant in Chibok Just Hours After Birth

A devastating turn of events unfolded in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, where a 12-hour-old baby girl tragically lost her life during a Boko Haram attack on her community, an incident that transformed a moment of joy into unimaginable tragedy.

The infant's demise occurred amidst the chaos and panic that ensued when suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a surprise attack on Bambatsu and Ngadarma villages in Mbalala Ward on Thursday evening, leaving the baby's mother, who had given birth just 12 hours prior, unable to flee due to her weakened state from childbirth.

In a desperate bid for safety, the baby's mother hid inside a toilet, while the newborn was left unattended, ultimately succumbing to suffocation in the midst of the turmoil, a heartbreaking consequence of the attack.

The perpetrators, believed to be the same group responsible for the recent attack on Mussa Primary and Secondary Schools in Askira-Uba Local Government Area, invaded Bambatsu and Ngadarma communities at approximately 7 p.m. before proceeding to the nearby Mussa community, unleashing a trail of destruction.

The coordinated attacks resulted in the loss of six lives, with five fatalities reported in Bambatsu and one in Ngadarma, in addition to the destruction of several houses, foodstuffs, and livestock, leaving the communities reeling from the aftermath.

A resident, Mr. Paul Mauntayhaga, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives, particularly the tragic death of the newborn baby, as he recounted the details of the attack that occurred in Bambatsu and Ngadarma.

Mauntayhaga revealed that the attack in Bambatsu claimed five lives, while one person was killed in Ngadarma, and lamented the fact that the newborn baby, born to Sangula Happy's wife just 12 hours prior to the attack, lost her life due to the fear, confusion, and lack of immediate assistance that prevailed during the chaos.

The mother of the deceased baby, still grappling with the loss of her child, remains weak and heartbroken, a poignant reminder of the human cost of the attack, according to Mauntayhaga, who shared the information that had reached him.

The victims of the attack were laid to rest on Friday, in accordance with their religious beliefs, marking a somber conclusion to the tragic events that unfolded in the communities.
