Militant group Boko Haram publishes death notice for cameraman fatally shot by military forces

A video tribute has been released by Boko Haram for Abu Salim al-Barnawi, a key media operative who was fatally shot by Nigerian forces during a thwarted attack on a military base in Borno State, as confirmed by Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.

Captain Goni shared the video on Wednesday, which pays homage to al-Barnawi's role in the terrorist group, and marks a significant loss for Boko Haram's media operations.

It is recalled that a recent report by Vanguard detailed the killing of numerous Boko Haram insurgents, including the group's videographer, in a fierce battle with military troops in the Lake Chad Basin area.

According to Captain Goni, al-Barnawi met his demise at the hands of the Nigerian army during the attack on the military camp, and was known to have previously led incursions into Cameroon before becoming a part of the terrorist group's media wing.

The video, which lasts three minutes and three seconds, showcases al-Barnawi displaying his communication devices on various occasions, prior to his eventual death.
