Mideast unrest intensifies after blast hits Belgian Jewish temple

A strong condemnation has been issued by Belgian authorities regarding the explosion that took place outside a synagogue in Liège on Monday, labeling it a severe instance of anti-Semitism.

The blast occurred at a time shortly before 4 a.m. on Monday, outside the synagogue located in Liège, resulting in no reported injuries but causing damage to windows in nearby buildings.

Following the incident, the police responded by closing off the street and setting up a security perimeter, which remains in place as the investigation is ongoing.

Liège Mayor Willy Demeyer has spoken out strongly against the incident, characterizing it as an "extremely violent act of anti-Semitism" and emphasizing the city's tradition of respect for others.

Demeyer stated that he, along with the city council, completely condemns this act, which contradicts the values of Liège, and he also cautioned against allowing international conflicts to infiltrate the city, making reference to the ongoing war involving Israel, the U.S., and Iran.

Yves Oschinsky, president of the Committee of Jewish Organisations in Belgium, expressed his concerns about the blast, describing it as "an extremely disturbing, serious and worrying anti-Semitic act".
