Middle Belt Organisation calls on Goodluck Jonathan to make a political comeback in the 2027 elections

The New Nigeria Integrity Movement, representing the Middle Belt Zone, has issued a call to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, urging him to reconsider a return to national leadership in the 2027 general election, citing the need for stabilising leadership in the face of worsening national challenges.

This appeal was made in a communiqué issued after a strategic meeting, during which the group's members expressed deep concern over rising insecurity, economic hardship, and deteriorating living conditions affecting millions of Nigerians.

A media release, jointly signed by Hon. Pastor Peter Hassan, National Leader, and Dr. Blessing Eliagu, Secretary, highlighted the country's current critical moment, marked by widespread poverty, hunger, and persistent insecurity, particularly in the Middle Belt region.

The statement noted that millions of Nigerians are experiencing unprecedented economic hardship, with poverty deepening, hunger becoming widespread, and many families struggling to secure basic meals on a daily basis.

The group acknowledged the importance of infrastructure development for long-term national growth but stressed that it does not immediately address the urgent crisis of hunger and livelihood confronting many Nigerians.

Therefore, the New Nigeria Integrity Movement urged Dr. Jonathan to offer his leadership and experience once again in service to the nation, believing that he represents calm, experienced, and credible leadership capable of restoring hope and rebuilding trust in governance.

The organisation appealed to democratic leaders and partners around the world to support efforts aimed at strengthening democratic governance and stability in Nigeria, describing Jonathan as one of Nigeria's most experienced statesmen.

His tenure, according to the group, demonstrated respect for democratic principles, tolerance, and commitment to national unity, with a leadership style reflecting humility, respect for the rule of law, and dedication to democratic values.

The movement argued that Jonathan's return could help reinforce the principle of power rotation, an important mechanism for maintaining national balance and political stability in Nigeria.
