Manchester City set for showdown with Liverpool in last eight of FA Cup competition

Manchester City is set to clash with Liverpool in a highly anticipated FA Cup quarter-final, with Arsenal, who are chasing a quadruple, scheduled to visit Southampton.

The draw, which took place on Monday, also resulted in Chelsea being handed a home tie against Port Vale, the League One giant-killers who pulled off a stunning 1-0 win over Sunderland in the fifth round on Sunday.

The quarter-final lineup will be completed by either West Ham or Brentford, who are set to meet on Monday, hosting Leeds in the remaining tie.

The standout fixture of the round is undoubtedly the Manchester City-Liverpool matchup, a clash between two of the biggest names in English football.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have already beaten Liverpool twice this season, with a 3-0 win in Manchester in November and a 2-1 victory at Anfield in February.

This will be the first time the two teams have met in the FA Cup since Liverpool emerged victorious with a 3-2 win in the semi-finals in 2022.

Liverpool, who won 3-1 at Wolves in the last 16, have an impressive record in the FA Cup, with eight titles to their name, the most recent of which came four years ago.

Manchester City, who have won the FA Cup seven times, last lifted the trophy in 2023, after beating Newcastle 3-1 in the fifth round.

Arsenal, the current Premier League leaders, advanced to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win at Mansfield, and will now travel to Championship play-off hopefuls Southampton.

Southampton earned their place in the quarter-finals with a surprise 1-0 win at Fulham in the fifth round, and will host Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side.

The quarter-final draw is as follows: Southampton v Arsenal, Chelsea v Port Vale, Manchester City v Liverpool, and West Ham or Brentford v Leeds.

These ties are scheduled to take place around the weekend of April 4-5.
