Manchester United fans are already losing patience with one of their new signings, just two weeks before the new season officially begins.
According to a report by The Sun, Supporters were left frustrated with midfielder Manuel Ugarte after a costly mistake during United’s 2-2 pre-season draw against Everton on Sunday night.
It was the first time the Red Devils had failed to win on their U.S. tour, and Ugarte’s error played a big role in that result.
The 23-year-old, who could end up costing the club £50.7 million with add-ons, lost the ball deep in his own half while trying to start a counter-attack.
As he attempted to dribble out of danger, Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko simply stuck out a leg and stole the ball. Mykolenko quickly nudged it to Idrissa Gana Gueye, who then whipped a pinpoint cross to the back post, where Iliman Ndiaye calmly finished to bring Everton level.
United fans were furious on social media after the game. Many felt Ugarte’s poor decision-making and lack of composure on the ball were unacceptable at this level.
One fan wrote, “We need to somehow offload Ugarte and find a replacement ASAP. He’s so poor on the ball. Just well below the standard we need.”
Another added, “I desperately want Ugarte to be the man, but it’s obvious we can’t build any consistency in midfield with him.”
And a fourth fumed: "Add Ugarte to the bomb squad". Ruben Amorim already has a "bomb squad" full of unwanted stars that he needs to offload this summer.
Marcus Rashford was the first to go after sealing his loan move to Barcelona, while Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho are amongst the high-earning names that are heading for the exit doors. Reprint this article
While it’s still early days in Ugarte’s United career, it’s clear that fans are expecting much better, especially considering the hefty price tag.
