Man allegedly kills wife in Imo, flees with two children

OWERRI — A resident of Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, has allegedly killed his wife and fled with their two children.

Residents of the area were said to have discovered the lifeless body of the woman on Monday morning within a church premises, while their infant child was found abandoned.

A source in the community, who pleaded anonymity, said the couple had been having recurring disagreements before the incident.

The development reportedly caused panic among residents of the area.

Confirming the incident, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said the command had been informed of the incident.

Okoye said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owerri North had visited the scene, while efforts had been intensified to arrest the suspect and rescue the missing children.

“The Imo State Police Command is aware of the tragic incident reported this morning at Owaelu, Owerri North LGA, where the lifeless body of a woman, allegedly killed by her husband, was discovered in a church premises.

“The suspect reportedly fled with two of their children, leaving behind a suckling baby, who has since been rescued and handed over to a trusted family relative.

n

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owerri North Divisional Headquarters, has visited the scene, and efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspect and rescue the two children,” he said.
