Major-led NNPP says INEC has recognised its NWC, declares readiness for 2027 elections

ABUJA — The faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) led by Dr. Agbo Major has announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the upload of the party’s duly recognised National Working Committee (NWC), describing the development as a significant milestone in resolving its leadership dispute and positioning the party for the 2027 general elections.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Major said the completion of the upload had paved the way for the party to begin uploading details of its candidates for the forthcoming elections after obtaining the necessary access code from INEC.

According to him, the party had requested a brief extension from the electoral commission to complete the process, explaining that delays in the implementation of court judgments had affected its preparations.

Major said the party had already uploaded its polling agents, while the submission and verification of nomination forms for aspirants seeking various elective offices were ongoing.

He also disclosed that the NNPP had restored its authentic 2022 Constitution and Manifesto and would continue to operate in line with those documents.

“The completion of the upload reinforces the legitimacy of our leadership and strengthens our preparations for future political activities,” he said.

The NNPP chairman added that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) would meet in the coming weeks to ratify decisions taken by the interim leadership and consolidate preparations for the 2027 elections.

Major expressed appreciation to the party’s founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, members, supporters and Nigerians in the diaspora for their support throughout the party’s legal challenges.

He also commended the judiciary for upholding the rule of law in the various cases involving the party but expressed concern over delays in implementing court judgments, urging INEC to ensure prompt compliance with judicial decisions in the interest of democracy and fairness.

The development comes amid the continued existence of another NNPP faction associated with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose National Executive Committee had earlier ratified the appointment of Bala Mohammed as Acting National Chairman following the resignation of Dr. Ajuji Ahmed.

Speaking on national security, Major called on the Federal Government to intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration among security agencies to address the country’s security challenges.

He stressed that while prayers remained important, proactive intelligence-led operations and effective prosecution of criminal elements were essential to restoring peace.

“The killings must stop. Nigerians should be able to travel freely across the country without fear. Security agencies must work together, share intelligence and protect lives and property,” he said.

Major noted that worsening insecurity had made road travel unsafe in many parts of the country, while the rising cost of air transportation had further limited movement for many citizens.

He also announced the appointment of Ambassador Shaibu Ahmed as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, saying the decision was taken at an emergency meeting in Lagos to strengthen the party’s leadership structure.

The NNPP chairman urged Nigerians, including youths, women, professionals, artisans, farmers and members of the diaspora, to join the party, describing it as a credible platform committed to justice, equity, accountability and national development.

He further called on INEC to remain impartial and ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in 2027, while urging all political stakeholders to place national interest above personal ambitions and uphold the rule of law.
