LP Warns Kalu: Era of electoral violence in Abia is over

UMUAHIA — The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has condemned former governor and incumbent Senator for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, over what it described as threats of violence ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, LP’s Publicity Secretary, Chidiebere Okoro, accused Kalu of resorting to “thuggery and intimidation” during a recent political gathering, describing his remarks as signs of “panic and desperation.”

“Abians will no longer be intimidated or coerced. The days when elections were written and violence deployed to subvert the will of the people are gone,” the party said.

The LP also defended Governor Alex Otti against Kalu’s criticisms of infrastructure and governance, calling his claims “falsehoods and distortions.” The party highlighted ongoing road projects and reforms under the Otti administration and challenged Kalu to “open the books” on state finances, past and present.

The statement further accused Kalu of attempting to force a political alliance with the current administration and of fabricating issues around school fees at Abia State University Uturu to undermine the Otti government.

While warning against any form of electoral violence, LP stressed that Abia voters would determine their future through the ballot, not intimidation.

“The era of threats, thuggery, and terror is over. No one will be allowed to derail democracy in Abia again,” the party added.
