Local Government Elections in Plateau: ADC Holds Nomination Process in 15 Council Areas

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau has successfully held primaries in 15 out of the state's 17 local government areas, according to the party's chairman, Mrs Hanatu Gagara.

These primaries are for local elections scheduled to take place on September 9, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The primaries were conducted peacefully across the local government areas, with the exception of Mikang and Langtang South, where the process did not take place, Mrs Gagara told NAN.

In the remaining local governments, the ADC has candidates vying for councilor and chairmanship seats, as stated by the party's chairman.

The reason for the delay in Mikang and Langtang South was that they came late to obtain the necessary forms, which could no longer be sold to them due to time constraints, according to Mrs Gagara.

However, with the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) having extended the period for primaries based on the new electoral act, the issue in these two local governments will be addressed, she added.

The process for addressing the issue has not yet begun, as Mrs Gagara had only just received the relevant letter from PLASIEC that afternoon.

Despite the challenges, the party chairman expressed confidence that the ADC is fully prepared for the upcoming election.

As the main opposition party in Plateau, the ADC has nominated competent candidates to compete against the ruling party, according to Mrs Gagara.

The chairman believes the party has a strong chance of winning the elections, citing the influx of new members from various parties as a positive sign.

This trend, she stated, indicates a great possibility and strong prospects of winning the elections.

Party members are fully mobilized to participate in all electoral processes leading up to the elections, Mrs Gagara said.

The ADC is currently conducting e-registration, and Mrs Gagara urged members to validate their membership.

Party members are enthusiastic about the upcoming congresses, and many are participating in the registration process, which is being facilitated by staff stationed in various local governments.

Mrs Gagara encouraged old and intending members to validate their membership by visiting their respective wards and local governments.
