Liverpool reach agreement to bring in Munoz, a target for Newcastle, from Osasuna

Liverpool have emerged victorious in the pursuit of Spain forward Victor Munoz, securing his services from Osasuna for a reported £34.5 million ($45.5 million) fee.

Munoz, currently representing his country at the World Cup, has undergone a medical examination at Spain's Tennessee base and committed to a six-year contract with the Premier League outfit.

The 22-year-old's acquisition marks the first signing under the tenure of Reds boss Andoni Iraola, who took the reins after the dismissal of Arne Slot.

A statement on Liverpool's website confirmed that the club has reached an agreement to sign Munoz, pending the successful processing of a work permit application and international clearance.

Newcastle had been in advanced negotiations to secure Munoz's signature, particularly after offloading Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, while Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen were also rumored to be interested in the player.

However, Liverpool ultimately convinced Munoz to join their ranks by triggering the release clause in his contract, despite competition from other suitors, after he impressed with seven goals and five assists in 36 appearances last season.

Munoz's footballing background includes a stint at Barcelona's esteemed La Masia youth academy, followed by a brief spell at Real Madrid, where he made just two appearances, before joining Osasuna in July 2025.

Capable of operating on either flank, Munoz is expected to help Iraola address the significant void left by Mohamed Salah's departure during the close season.

With two international caps for Spain, having debuted in March, Munoz will reunite with his new teammates later in the summer, once the World Cup has concluded.

Liverpool are also believed to be pursuing teenage forward Yan Diomande, who currently plays for German club Leipzig and is participating in the World Cup with Ivory Coast.

In a separate development, French defender Jeremy Jacquet is set to join Liverpool from Rennes in July, as part of a deal negotiated earlier in the year.
