Lawmaker Dasuki quits People's Democratic Party, defects to African Democratic Congress

Rep Abdussamad Dasuki, the member representing Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency, Sokoto State, has submitted a formal resignation of his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking the end of his long-standing affiliation with the party.

Dated March 15, 2026, Dasuki's resignation letter was addressed to the PDP chairman of Dogon Daji/ Salah Ward, Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State, and it officially terminated his membership.

In the letter, Dasuki attributed his decision to the prolonged leadership crisis within the party, which he believes has severely impaired its ability to function effectively as a leading opposition party, citing the significant weakening of its capacity.

Dasuki stated that the persistent internal challenges have hindered the party's ability to provide credible and organized opposition, which is essential for strengthening Nigeria's democracy, and this realization prompted his resignation.

According to Dasuki, his decision to resign was made after consulting extensively with his political associates, constituents, and stakeholders who share his concerns about the current state of the party and the nation.

Following his resignation from the PDP, Dasuki has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that will enable him to collaborate with like-minded individuals committed to addressing the country's socio-economic and political challenges.
