Lawal distributes 120 complimentary fertiliser trucks, 200,000 litres of weed control chemicals, and 100 machines for processing harvest leftovers to agricultural workers

Governor Dauda Lawal has overseen the distribution of over 120 trucks of fertilisers and vital farm inputs to farmers in Zamfara, as part of the state's efforts to boost agricultural production.

The launch of the Zamfara 2026 wet-season fertiliser programme took place on Friday at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital, marking a significant milestone in the state's agricultural calendar.

A statement from the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the Zamfara State Government has distributed 72,000 bags of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides, and 100 crop residue crushers to support farmers in the state.

Additionally, the state government has also provided 100 grass choppers, 100 feed milling machines, improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles, and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension agents, further bolstering the state's agricultural capabilities.

Governor Lawal emphasized that Zamfara State is strategically positioned as one of Nigeria's key agricultural hubs, with vast, fertile land and a hardworking population that has a long history and culture rooted in agriculture.

According to Governor Lawal, farming is not only the main livelihood in Zamfara State but also a crucial factor in driving inclusive growth, sustainable development, and poverty reduction, while also helping to combat banditry and crime.

The governor noted that the state's communities have a rich tradition of agriculture, livestock, and trade, which has sustained livelihoods and regional food supply for generations, and that agriculture is an integral part of the state's identity, heritage, and resilience.

The distribution of fertilisers and agricultural assets will be carried out across all 147 political wards in Zamfara State's 14 Local Government Areas, ensuring that each ward receives 340 bags of fertiliser and each Local Government Area receives 8,000 litres of herbicides.
