Law enforcement thwarts covert funeral, detains three suspects in connection with suspected homicide in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command operatives thwarted a clandestine attempt to bury a murder victim and apprehended three suspects linked to the crime in the Akute area.

The suspects, including 35-year-old Maureen Okirie, 15-year-old Salia Karikari, and 12-year-old Jubril Karikari, were detained by detectives from the Ajuwon Division after a tip-off about suspicious activities in the community.

The arrest occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, when officers raided the scene and caught one of the suspects trying to bury a blood-soaked corpse in a shallow grave, in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Stanley Okirie, suffered severe head injuries, and preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle.

Other suspects, reportedly relatives of the deceased, were implicated in both the killing and the attempted concealment, and the suspected murder weapon has been recovered.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for an autopsy, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni condemned the act as "cruel, inhumane, and deeply disturbing", particularly given the involvement of close family members.

Ojajuni warned that acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes would not be tolerated, and assured that the Command would conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

The suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution, according to Ojajuni.
