Law enforcement investigates assault on Rivers ADC headquarters, says representative

The Rivers State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a recent arson attack that targeted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Ubima community, located near Port Harcourt, with CSP Grace Iringe-Koko confirming the development.

Iringe-Koko, the command's spokesperson, shared this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Saturday, where she discussed the incident.

Suspected political thugs allegedly set fire to an ADC ward office in Ubima, which is the hometown of former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, according to reports gathered by NAN.

These thugs were reportedly manning a roadblock along the Omuma-Ubima Road, searching for vehicles transporting ADC materials, including banners, to the Ubima community.

CSP Iringe-Koko urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that police detectives are actively working to identify the sponsors and perpetrators of the attack.

A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the command to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident, according to Iringe-Koko.

Iringe-Koko stated that the command received a report of a fire outbreak at the ADC secretariat in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area, allegedly caused by miscreants, and a detachment was deployed to the scene to confirm the incident.

No lives were lost in the incident, but properties were damaged, and the investigation is ongoing, Iringe-Koko said, adding that the extent of the damage to the office complex is yet to be determined by detectives.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and Iringe-Koko urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities related to the incident.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Amadi, told NAN that the attack occurred before Rotimi Amaechi's arrival for the ongoing e-registration exercise of the ADC in the state.

According to Amadi, the arsonists stormed the secretariat in the early hours of Friday and set the building ablaze, destroying several items, including party documents and materials.

Amadi noted that by the time they noticed the fire, the building had already suffered significant damage, with the flames destroying various items inside the facility.
