Law enforcement detains pair of customs officials over suspected fatal shooting of motorist in Osun

The Osun Police Command has taken two Nigeria Customs Service officers into custody in relation to a fatal shooting incident in Osogbo that resulted in the death of a driver.
nThis development was announced in a statement released by the command's spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Sunday, which provided details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
nThe two NCS officers were arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred at Dada Estate Area in Osogbo on Sunday, according to Ojelabi, who explained that the Customs officers were chasing suspected foreign-used vehicles when the incident took place.
nAsh-coloured Toyota Corolla driver, who was being chased by the Customs officers, was shot and pronounced dead by a medical doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.
nThe victim's corpse, whose identity has yet to be determined, has been deposited in a morgue, as disclosed by the command's spokesperson.
nSeveral items were recovered from the scene, including a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, as well as 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one expanded 9mm shell, according to Ojelabi.
nOther recovered items included a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AAA 400 GQ and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982.
nCommissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding it.
nGotan has assured the public that anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law, and he urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information to aid the investigation.
