Law enforcement detains alleged sect followers accused of intimidating Osun residents

Authorities in Osun have taken into custody several individuals suspected of being part of secret cults that have been wreaking havoc across the state, as outlined in a statement released by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Spokesperson, on Sunday.

A key arrest was made on Wednesday at approximately 6p.m. when a notorious cultist known as "small", who had been terrorizing the Iloro community in Ilesa town, was apprehended and subsequently confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

Furthermore, the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command successfully arrested suspected cultists in the Sasa Area of Osogbo at around 1a.m. on Friday, utilizing intelligence gathering to inform their actions.

Efforts are still underway to capture other suspects who are currently on the run, according to Ojelabi, who also detailed the recovery of various exhibits from the suspects, including one axe, one live cartridge, and several caps, one of which featured the Eye Confraternity logo.

The recovered items also included six other caps, in addition to the aforementioned items, and all suspects will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, is urging parents and guardians to take measures to dissuade their children from engaging in cultism and instead encourage them to pursue more productive and meaningful pursuits.
