Law enforcement detains a father and his child along with three additional individuals in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has achieved significant successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime, with the arrest of a father and son, along with three other suspects, and the recovery of four firearms and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at N180,000.

These arrests and recoveries were made possible by intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives from the Afon, Ilisan Remo, and Ode Remo Divisions, which led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, two dane guns, and one live cartridge, in addition to the stolen mobile phone.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Friday, revealed that operatives from the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his son, Waliu Adegbola, 23, following a theft report received on May 22, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m.

Waliu Adegbola was accused of stealing a Tecno Android phone from a residential apartment on May 8, and after acting on credible intelligence, operatives recovered the stolen phone and later found a locally made pistol and a Dane gun at the suspects' residence, which were allegedly concealed within the premises.

The suspects, Fatai and Waliu Adegbola, remain in custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of their involvement and possible accomplices, according to the police spokesperson.

In a separate operation, operatives from the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., which was discovered abandoned and immediately secured by the patrol team.

The exhibit has been deposited in the division's armoury for safe custody, while an investigation is ongoing to trace its origin and ownership, as stated by Babaseyi.

Operatives from the Ode Remo Division also arrested Inioluwa Adesanya, 25, for allegedly stealing a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo, with police investigations revealing that the suspect gained access to the complainant's residence by posing as a carpenter's assistant.

During interrogation, Adesanya confessed to the crime and admitted being a member of the Aye confraternity, stating that the weapon was modified for concealment purposes, according to Babaseyi.

The recovered dane gun has been secured as an exhibit, and the suspect is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The command has transferred all the cases to the SCID for discreet investigation, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command's resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations against violent crimes, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across the state, and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the command's emergency lines.
