LASTMA Investigates Claim of N100,000 Bribery on Coastal Route

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has launched an investigation into claims that its officers extorted N100,000 from drivers on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, according to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Mr Taofiq Adebayo, in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos.

LASTMA's attention was drawn to a Facebook post by an individual named Tosin, who alleged that officers arrested commercial buses on the coastal road and demanded N100,000 in exchange for their release on an unspecified Monday.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, oversees an institution that takes such allegations very seriously, as it prides itself on being a disciplined and professional organization that does not tolerate misconduct or extortion by its personnel.

Adebayo emphasized that a thorough and impartial investigation has been initiated, and any officer found guilty will face disciplinary action in accordance with the organization's rules and regulations.

As part of the investigation, Tosin has been invited to appear at the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, where he will be required to provide concrete evidence to support his claims, as the burden of proof lies with him.
