Large crowds participate in Palm Sunday march through Ilorin

On Sunday, thousands of Christians in Ilorin, Kwara State, participated in a vibrant Palm Sunday procession, joining millions worldwide in commemorating Jesus Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, which marks the beginning of Holy Week.

This procession brought together worshippers from various denominations, who initially gathered at Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo-Oke, before proceeding to march through major city roads, including Murtala Way, Maraba, Amilegbe, Ipata, Opo-Malu, Emir’s Road, Taiwo Isale, Unity, and the Post Office area.

A separate group of worshippers, starting from First Baptist Church, Surulere, merged with the main procession at Unity Road, further amplifying the celebration.

The event ultimately concluded with a closing benediction at the cathedral, bringing the vibrant procession to a close.

Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State chapter, addressed the participants, urging them to remain steadfast in their faith and service, while also calling on the government and security agencies to protect lives and property.

Adewole emphasized that faith must serve as a guiding force in daily life, particularly during challenging times, such as those marked by high fuel costs and erratic electricity supply.

Representing Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Reverend Timothy Oluwagbemiga Akangbe encouraged worshippers to pray for the progress of the state and the nation, highlighting the importance of love, humility, and service during Holy Week.

Former CAN Secretary, Pa Olusola Ajolore, advocated for proactive measures to address insecurity, emphasizing the need for efficient security resource utilization, attention to unemployment, and a review of the nation’s constitution to reflect contemporary realities.

Senior Prophet Segun Korode of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church reminded Christians to glorify God for His faithfulness and emulate Jesus Christ's humility, which brings salvation to mankind.

Participants expressed hope that their prayers would lead to peace, security, and socio-economic progress in Kwara State and Nigeria at large, as the Palm Sunday celebration marks the beginning of Passion Week, including Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday.
