Lagos Taskforce impounds 70 motorcycles for traffic violations at Mile-2

The Lagos State Taskforce has impounded 70 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, along the Mile-2–Lagos–Badagry Expressway and surrounding areas for traffic violations.

The motorcycles were confiscated during operations carried out along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, including Festac-First Gate, Mazamaza, and Iyana-Iba.

Chairman of the agency, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic and security regulations and address illegal commercial motorcycle activities.

“The agency conducted another round of its clean-up enforcement exercise today at Iyana-Iba axis, following an earlier operation last weekend, demonstrating our resolve to sustain enforcement and maintain order on major highways and adjoining roads,” Akerele said.

He added that some commercial motorcycle operators were found using restricted routes and obstructing traffic flow, while others were involved in transporting prohibited items.

At the conclusion of the exercise, a total of 70 motorcycles were impounded, and normal traffic operations were restored across the affected areas.

CSP Akerele stated that all confiscated motorcycles will be forfeited to the State through the courts in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining enforcement activities until full compliance is achieved.

“We will continue to uphold the law and ensure that traffic and security regulations are respected,” he said.
