Lagos Police Disburse ₦53.3m in Compensation to Families of Deceased Officers

Lagos State Police Command, under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, distributed cheques worth ₦53.3 million to families of police officers who lost their lives in active service on Thursday.

This presentation was a key part of the activities marking Day 4 of the 2026 National Police Day and coincided with a security stakeholders’ meeting focused on bolstering community ties to prevent crime.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, presented the cheques, emphasizing the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to the welfare of families of fallen officers, stating that their sacrifices will always be remembered.

CP Fatai noted that the gesture demonstrates the force's commitment to the welfare of families of officers who have paid the ultimate price, adding that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Beneficiaries of the cheques expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Police Command, with one of them stating that the support will significantly help their families cope with the loss and challenges they face.

Another beneficiary appreciated the police for not forgetting them, saying the assistance brings hope and relief, as they acknowledged the efforts made by the police to support them.

Prior to the cheque presentation, a stakeholders’ meeting was held to deepen collaboration between the police and the public, where CP Fatai commended participants for their ongoing support.

CP Fatai emphasized that effective policing relies on public cooperation, urging the public to report suspicious activities promptly, as timely information is vital for maintaining peace and order.

The CP identified cultism and electoral violence as significant concerns and assured that the Command will continue to use intelligence-led policing and technology to enhance operational effectiveness.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to tackling cultism and electoral violence, stating that proactive strategies will be deployed to address these challenges, and efforts to combat them will not be relaxed.
