Lagos Internal Revenue Service pushes back cutoff date for personal tax submissions to April 14

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has pushed back the deadline for submitting individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, moving it from March 31 to April 14, 2026, to give taxpayers more time to file accurate returns.

This extension is a one-time measure to make compliance easier, according to Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, who announced the change in a statement on Monday, while emphasizing that March 31 remains the standard cutoff date.

Ayodele Subair explained that the usual deadline for filing individual annual tax returns is March 31 every year, and the extra time is meant to help individuals complete and submit their tax returns correctly.

Subair cautioned taxpayers against becoming too relaxed, emphasizing that filing annual returns is a regular obligation that should be taken seriously.

The LIRS eTax platform is now the only approved way to submit returns, as manual filing is no longer an option, Subair reiterated, stressing the importance of prioritizing timely filing of annual income tax returns.

Individuals must use the LIRS eTax platform to file their returns, as it is the only approved method, and manual filings are no longer accepted, according to Subair, who advised taxpayers to file exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal.

The LIRS eTax portal, located at https://etax.lirs.net, is a secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7 platform, and Subair advised individuals to ensure their TaxID is correctly included in their submissions.
