Labour Party launches online membership sign-up in Nasarawa, refutes claims of interim leadership.

The Labour Party in Nasarawa State has initiated an electronic membership registration process, with the state chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Alexander Ombugu, emphasizing that the party's constitution does not acknowledge any caretaker committee.

Ombugu made this statement during an emergency stakeholders' meeting at the party secretariat in Lafia, where the e-registration exercise and interactions with aspirants seeking to contest future elections were discussed.

He warned individuals claiming to be part of a caretaker committee to cease their actions, describing such claims as illegal and potentially divisive within the party.

According to Ombugu, the Labour Party's constitution explicitly does not recognize a caretaker committee, and anyone claiming to be part of one is attempting to cause problems and create confusion within the party.

Ombugu stressed that the Labour Party in the state remains united and faction-free, urging members to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise.

He also revealed that security agencies have been alerted to address any attempts to destabilize the party, warning that those trying to infiltrate or sabotage the party will face consequences.

The party has urged its members to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities, as security agencies have been notified to take action.

Ombugu explained that the e-registration exercise began shortly after the 2023 general elections but was restarted to comply with new requirements from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The updated process now requires members to provide their National Identity Number (NIN) and photographs as part of the registration data, as mandated by INEC.

Ombugu expressed optimism that the party would register over 50,000 members in Nasarawa State, citing the strong turnout of supporters at the secretariat.

The chairman also expressed confidence in the party's growing popularity in the state, noting that the Labour Party recorded significant support during the 2023 presidential election in Nasarawa.

Ombugu called on residents of the state to join the party, emphasizing its commitment to people-oriented leadership and inclusive governance.

Senatorials aspirants for Nasarawa South and Nasarawa West, Barr. Ayiwulu Baba Ayiwulu and Shehu Reuben Peters, pledged their support for the e-registration exercise and expressed readiness to mobilize members across their respective zones.

Ayiwulu stated that the party is focused on presenting credible candidates capable of winning elections across the three senatorial districts.

Peters said that younger aspirants in the party are prepared to provide effective leadership and represent the interests of the people of Nasarawa State.
