Labour Party Initiates Ward-Level Meetings

Spearheading the Labour Party's nationwide ward congress, Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman has urged for a significant boost in female representation within the party's leadership ranks.

Usman participated in the ward congress in her home turf of Jere South Ward, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where she praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for its impartial stance.

A statement issued by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, quoted Usman as marking the beginning of the party's congresses at the ward level.

She noted that the simultaneous conduct of congresses in Jere North and Jere South wards, as is customary, resulted in the election of new executives to oversee party affairs at the grassroots level.

According to reports from across the country, the exercise was largely peaceful and well-organised, thanks in part to INEC's diligent monitoring efforts.

Usman outlined the next phases of the congresses, which include local government and state levels, ultimately culminating in a national convention scheduled to take place in Umuahia, Abia State.

She reaffirmed the party's commitment to achieving gender balance and increasing female participation in leadership positions, particularly in party administration.

Usman called upon party members to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the ward congresses throughout the remaining stages, including the national convention.

The ward congresses, which took place across 8,809 wards nationwide, saw the election of new executives who will participate in subsequent local government congresses on April 24, state congresses on April 25, and the national convention on April 28, 2026.
