Kyari visits Maiduguri bomb blast victims, extends support

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has paid a sympathy visit to victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, currently receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Over 70 injured persons are hospitalized at the facility following the March 16 triple suicide attacks that struck crowded locations, including Monday Market, the Post Office, and the main gate of the hospital.

Authorities confirmed that at least 23 people lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the attacks, which have again highlighted the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province in the North-East.

Kyari, who was out of the country with Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the time of the incident, returned to Nigeria and proceeded directly to the hospital, where he was received by the Director of the Trauma Centre, Dr. Bukar Bunu.

During the visit, the minister offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, and wished the injured quick recovery. He also commiserated with families of the victims, urging them to accept the tragedy as an act of God.

Kyari provided cash assistance to the victims and extended support to other patients in the ward, expressing compassion for their condition.

He further appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government, acknowledging President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Babagana Umara Zulum for their commitment to tackling insecurity.

The minister also commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the military’s role in restoring peace and stability in Borno State and across the country.

While applauding medical personnel and rescue teams, including the police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Kyari urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to pray for lasting peace in the state and the nation.
