Kogi state authorities verify kidnapping of 24 children from local orphanage

The Kogi State government has verified the kidnapping of 24 individuals from an orphanage in the state, comprising 23 pupils and the proprietor's wife, in a brazen attack that has sparked a robust response from authorities.

A total of 15 of the 24 abductees have been rescued, thanks to the prompt intervention of security agencies, with efforts still underway to secure the release of the remaining victims, according to the State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo.

The incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, involved unknown gunmen invading the premises of the Dahallukitab Group of Schools, an unregistered facility located in a remote, bushy area, and abducting 23 pupils and the wife of the proprietor.

Security operatives, led by the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State, swiftly responded to the attack, rescuing 15 of the victims, and their efforts have been commended by Commissioner Fanwo for their gallantry and professionalism.

The government has expressed concern over the operation of unregistered institutions in isolated locations, warning that such facilities pose serious security risks, particularly in the current security environment, and expose innocent children to avoidable dangers.
