Kidnappers of former defence spokesperson issue ultimatum for freedom of detained associates and confiscated cattle

A newly released video features retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former director of defence information, and his wife, who are being held captive by their abductors, with the couple's captors outlining specific conditions for their freedom. The video was circulated on social media on Saturday, showing the pair who were taken along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.

In the four-minute video, Abubakar's wife relays the demands made by the kidnappers, including the release of three individuals: Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock that the kidnappers claim was seized from them, as reported by Daily Trust.

According to the wife, two of the detained individuals were taken into custody in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano, and she is appealing to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to facilitate compliance with these demands to secure the couple's release.

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar briefly speaks in the video, calling for efforts to promote peace, and stating that the abductors have expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

A notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, who operates in parts of Katsina State, has reportedly established contact with the family of the retired general, according to Daily Trust.
