Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has given his approval for the formation of a special committee, tasked with investigating the tragic deaths of two children at General Hospital, Zuru.
This development was announced in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, which was made available to the press in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
The committee, as outlined in the statement, will be chaired by Commissioner for Information Yakubu Ahmed BK, with Commissioner for Health Alhaji Sama’ila Augie and Hon. Commissioner for Establishment Alhaji Manu Dogondaji serving as members.
Additionally, Dr. Zaki Abubakar Zaki, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, has been appointed as the committee's Secretary.
The committee's terms of reference include determining the probable causes of the children's deaths, identifying those involved in the incident, and allocating blame where necessary.
The committee is also expected to provide recommendations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
A one-week deadline has been set for the committee to submit its report, with instructions to begin work immediately.
The incident, which has been linked to allegations of a wrongful injection, has caused the children's parents immense grief and created tension within the hospital.
It has been alleged, according to an earlier report by an online medium, that certain nurses disregarded doctors' instructions, potentially contributing to the tragic outcome.
